11 Jul Austin Gives Miles Selects Charities for 2017 Austin Marathon and Half Marathon®
We’re thrilled to announce the 26 Austin Gives Miles Official Charities that will participate in the 2017 Austin Marathon and Half Marathon® presented by NXP. This list is a wonderful cross-section of the many charitable giving opportunities in Central Texas and we are proud to have them involved with the 2017 event.
This year’s charities were chosen via application process. In order to be considered, charities had to demonstrate their willingness to partner with the race, their ability to provide volunteer support, and their determination to raise funds for their organization. Most importantly, all of our charities must provide direct support to the Central Texas area. These charities are giving back to our local community and we are pleased to commend and highlight the great work they do for our city and the surrounding areas.
Here are your 26 Austin Gives Miles Official Charities:
Ainsley’s Angels – In addition to ensuring everyone can experience endurance events, Ainsley’s Angels of American aims to build awareness about America’s special needs community through inclusion in all aspects of life. Serving as advocates to providing education and participating as active members in local communities, we believe everyone deserves to be included.
Austin Habitat for Humanity – Through faith in action, Austin Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope.
Austin Parks Foundation – Austin Parks Foundation improves the quality of life for people in Austin and Travis County by filling the city’s funding and resource gap needed to develop, maintain and enhance the area’s parks, trails and green spaces.
Back on My Feet Austin – Back on My Feet combats homelessness through the power of running, community support and essential employment and housing resources.
Blue Dog Rescue – Blue Dog Rescue is an all-volunteer, charitable organization that works to find permanent, loving homes for at-risk homeless dogs in the Central Texas area, all the while preparing them for the best possible relationship with you! Most of our dogs come from Central Texas shelters where they might not have a chance at adoption due to size, color, breed, or medical condition.
CureDuchenne – To fund groundbreaking research that will lead to finding a cure for this generation of Duchenne boys.
Down Syndrome Association of Central Texas – Our mission is to provide education, support, and resources to individuals with Down syndrome, their families and professionals and the community while building public awareness and acceptance of the abilities of individuals with Down syndrome.
Family Eldercare – Family Eldercare provides vital services to seniors, adults with disabilities, and those who care for them in Central Texas.
Hand to Hold – To provide navigation resources and comprehensive support programs to parents of preemies, babies born with special healthcare needs and those who have experienced a loss due to these or other complications.
HealthStart Foundation – To empower kids to create a healthier future for our communities through early health education.
Hope Chapel – We seek to love our neighbors and make disciples in Austin and beyond, all for the glory of God.
HOPE4MINDS – We foster hope and enrich the lives of children with an acquired brain injury through support and education.
LIVESTRONG – Improve the lives of people affected by cancer now.
Marathon Kids – Marathon Kids is dedicated to improving the health of children by providing them with the tools, motivation and support to live happier, healthier lifestyles.
National Psoriasis Foundation – To drive efforts to cure psoriatic disease and improve the lives of those affected.
Odyssey School – Odyssey School is committed to the development of academic excellence and self-acceptance for students who struggle in traditional educational settings. We believe that all children can be successful in their intellectual, creative, and social development. Our goal is to help every student discover their individual potential for greatness.
Out Youth – Out Youth serves the Central Texas LGBTQ+ (lesbian/gay/bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning) youth and their allies with programs and services to ensure these promising young people develop into happy, healthy, successful adults.
Run Free Texas – Run Free Texas is a running program designed to positively impact the lives of our community’s youth by promoting physical and mental wellness.
Susan G. Komen Austin – Our mission is to save lives and end breast cancer forever.
Texas 4000 for Cancer – Texas 4000’s mission is to cultivate student leaders and engage communities in the fight against cancer.
The Autism Society of Central Texas – Improving the lives of all affected by Autism.
The Children’s Heart Foundation Texas Chapter – Funding the most promising CHD research.
The Trail Foundation – The Trail Foundation’s mission is to enhance and protect the 10.1-mile Ann and Roy Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail surrounding Lady Bird Lake in Austin, TX. Since its formation in 2003, TTF has closed the gap between what the City can provide and what the Trail requires.
Now it’s time for you to pick a charity to support. We highly encourage all of our runners to choose a charity and give back with a one-time donation or by running the 2017 Austin Marathon and Half Marathon for them.
