03 Aug Jack’s Generic Triathlon Prepares for 15th Anniversary
High Five Events continues their 2017 triathlon season with Jack’s Generic Triathlon. The event will take place on Sunday, August 6th, at Lake Pflugerville – just north of Austin, Texas. More than 700 participants will participate in the 15th edition of this beloved Central Texas race, including an athlete making her comeback to triathlon and another athlete continuing her return.
Laurie Allen, a 9-time IRONMAN and 9-time IRONMAN 70.3 finisher, makes her return to triathlon after she became a quadriplegic in an accident in February 2015. Allen has been doggedly preparing for her first triathlon and will compete on a modified course. She has completed numerous High Five Events-produced triathlons, finishing Jack’s Generic Tri thrice (2006, 2007, 2012) and completing the Texas Tri Series as an athlete (2007) and a volunteer (2010).
“It’ll be like crossing the IRONMAN finish line for the first time,” said Allen during her Staying Vertical interview when asked what it will mean to her to cross the finish line again.
Jack’s Generic Tri will be the third event in Amy Marsh’s return to triathlon. The 4x IRONMAN Champion and Acute Myeloid Leukemia survivor received clearance to swim in open water earlier this year and made her return at The Rookie Triathlon on May 7, placing 3rd in the female division (52:49). She was also the women’s sprint champion at the 2017 Life Time Tri CapTex (1:08:55) on Memorial Day.
Participants can receive complimentary stretching, ice tubs, snacks, and more at Club MIM. The recovery tent in the finish line festival is sponsored by Medicine in Motion, a facility for all sports-related injuries, sports evaluations, nutrition and fitness, and performance-based care. Additional services like cupping therapy and recovery IVs can be pre-purchased or purchased on site.
Athletes will also receive 15th Anniversary shirts and reusable bags, glow-in-the-dark water bottles, swim caps, beer, finisher’s medal, a post-race meal, and the signature swag toss. Professional timing, a great volunteer crew, hundreds of supportive spectators, and an electric finish line festival will make the 15th Anniversary of Jack’s Generic Triathlon one to remember.
Jack’s Generic Triathlon will begin at 7:30 a.m. and offer participants various distances, including sprint, intermediate, relay, and aquabike. Jack’s Generic Tri was created 15 years ago with the participant in mind and is well-known as one of the more participant-friendly triathlons. Registration is still open for Jack’s Generic Triathlon. Volunteer positions are available as well. Packet pickup will take place at Bicycle World Austin.
